Small compact witches broom form from Atropurpureum. The foliage opens red and ages to maroon giving a two-toned effect. Bright red leaves emerge in the spring and become dark purple red for summer. Bright crimson in autumn. This plant will have a dense globe shape with age eventually reaching 2 or more metres. This compact upright maple is very vigorous when young, but becomes shorter and thicker when established.
