Chinese Paperbark Maple

Upright Japanese Maple

Acer Griseum

Acer Griseum, or the Chinese Paperbark Maple, is well-suited as a specimen plant in a lawn, preferably where the sun goes down behind it, so that the peeling bark glows like burnished copper. A hardy and handsome tree all year round with beautiful autumn colour, it will grow in most soil types. It grows slowly to reach perhaps 3m in 10 years. This lovely small tree has become a favourite ornamental of temperate climate gardeners around the world, having originated from Central China. Its leaves are trifoliate and so not like the Japanese maples.
